Croatia to Tirana

Hi, I need to travel from Split in Croatia to Tirana on Monday, September 1. I%26#39;ve scoured the Internet for answers but there doesn%26#39;t appear to be any direct modes of transport linking either Split or Dubrovnik with the Albanian capital.

Does anyone know a straightforward way to make this journey.

I had hoped to do it over 2 days. Is this possible?

Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Its not too difficult, but time bus may not fit and may spend few days for it.

Buses are avaliable in following intervals:

Split - Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik - Gerceg Nova (or Kotor)

Grcegnova - Kotor

Kotor - Budva

Budva - Ulcinj

Ulcinj-Shkodra

Shkodra- Tirana

2 days is possible (you probalably will have to sleap in Ulcinj if no delays, but strongly suggest to spend nore time in Montenegro because it worth it

Thanks Lanela...I am meeting friends in Tirana so will struggle to spend more time in Montenegro. Shame....I%26#39;ve just read a newspaper report on it and it looks stunning.

I think you could do Dubrovnik Herceg Novi and then Herceg Novi Budva, Budva Ulcinj, those buses are frequent. at the time of the year buses from Ulcinj to Shkodra are also often so you should not have a problem to get there.

If you’ll choose busing, there is a direct line Split-Ulcinj (very south of Montenegro) several times a week, in high season it could get more frequent.

Bus option nr 2 is: Split-Dubrovnik (dozens of daily departures), than Dubrovnik to Ulcinj, than from Ulcinj to Albania.

Dubrovnik bus station (see no Ulcinj listed, but am positive it was there last season; be back when the summer timetable will be on)

Another option could be high-speed boat Split-Ancona (Italy), from there or nearby Perugia flight to Tirana with BelleAir

One more option is that highspeed boat Split-Ancona, from there to Durres (Italian: Durazzo, near Tirana) by overnight ferry

Hi Archie

There is a direct bus from Split to Ulcinj which leaves Split station at 4pm and arrives in Ulcinj about 1 am. This bus operates on Monday Wednesday and Saturday only.

There is another bus operator (Bozur)but they never turn up on time, and from personal experience, I would not bother with them.I do this trip often, and tavelling on the bus is a great way to see Dalmatian Coast.

The bus company is called AUTO BOKA Kotor. The ticket is about 25-30 euros. From ulcinj I think there is a bus service to Albania, but there are 2 board crossing between Montenegro and Albania. One at Bozaj(close to Podgorica) and one near ulcinj, which is closer for travelling to Tirana.

You will have a great time in Albania, especially if you are visiting Albanian friends. I have visited Albania few times in the last 2 years and I had a great time, and I am not Albanian.

Have a good journey
