Tirana to Dubrovnik by car rental

I%26#39;m putting together a trip to Greece and Croatia, that may require me to fly through Tirana and rent a car to drive to Dubrovnik. I can%26#39;t find direct connections from Athens to Dubrovnik, so this (or a similar trip through Sarajevo) are my main options. Is this possible - a one way car rental from Tirana to Dubrovnik? Or is it not advisable? Also how long a drive would it be? Thanks.

It%26#39;s about a 8-hour drive including stops for fuel and border crossings. I don%26#39;t know if there are any rental companies which do one-way rental from Albania. I highly doubt it. You can do bus/minibus travel to get there. It%26#39;s a beautiful part of the world and worth seeing!

I did Tirana to Dubrovnik in a hire car last August. Travelling on a busy Friday starting at 11am, it took me 13 hours which included 2 hours queuing at the Albania-Montenegro border, 2 hours queuing for the Gulf of Kotor ferry and two hours queuing at the Montenegro-Croatia border. Take plenty of drinking water and food for the journey. The journey back took 8 hours on a Thursday starting at 6am. Unless I wish to visit the places en route, I shall never do it again even if the roads and border crossings are improved dramatically. Have you investigated the ferries from Greece to Italy and Italy to Croatia?

Rough trip! August is always a bad month to try do anything in Europe, particularly travelling through the beach resort areas of the Balkans. Crowded, expensive, clogged with traffic. Avoid July and August if at all possible.
