From Greece to Bosnia

I need to go from Greece to south of Bosnia this summer. I have never been to Albania, so I am wondering, how would be the trip to cross a whole Albania, how are the roads?

Hey Palic73,

If you go via Gjirokaster, the road from the boarder till Tepelena is very good, new one. From Tepelena to Fier is not so good but not bad either.

From Fier to Duress is motorway and from Duress to Shkodra is a good road. The Albanians drive carelessly so do take more care and I would strongly recommend to drive during the day and very carefully. If you have time go via Saranda, sea coast, the road improved recently, the stanning view of the Albanian riviera.

The worst road is from Shkodra to Bozaj/Hani Hoti border crossing. On Montenegrin side the road is narrow but in good condition.

I hope I helped, have a great trip,

The roads vary as Rozafa pointed out. I would recommend the coast road from Saranda to Vlora just because it%26#39;s so beautiful. The road from Gjirokaster to Fier is faster, but has some bad sections and is not quite as scenic. I guess it depends on where you come in from Greece. If you enter at Kapshtice, you will go to Korca, Pogradec, Elbasan, Tirana, Shkoder, and up to Podgorica in Montenegro. From there to Sarejevo is a nice drive.

Enjoy.

Thank you Rozafa very much for your advices, I will surely take them into account. Since we would be coming form Thessaloniki and our final destination is the south of Bosnia, and taking into account that we would be traveling with two small children, which you think would be the best road to take through Albania?, and how long you estimate that would take to drive through.

Thank you again

Well, just checked map of Greece and maybe Kapshtice crossing near KOrca is the closest for you. Korca - Pogradec road is a new and good road. From Pogradec, you go Elbassan and then to Tirana also reasonble road, Elbasan - Tirana is a road with lots of curves so maybe you should take the road through Rogozine, then Durres. From Tirana to Shkodra, Podgorica, Niksic and Sarajevo. I guess this is the fasterst road. Korca - Tirana is 3 - 3,30 hours. Tirana - Shkodra 1,30; Shkodra - POdgorica 1,15 min depending how busy is the border crossing (it should not be too busy). To Nikshic one more hour. I think this is the fastest.

Good luck!
