Travelling from Skopje to Tirana

Hello! We (me %26amp; my boyfriend) want to travel from Bucharest to Skopje (via Sofia) with a couple of friends - by car -, and to spend some days there. As I am a true %26quot;travel bug%26quot; and due to the fact that I am dying to visit Albania - and especially Tirana -, I would really like to know whether or not there are trains departing from Skopje to Tirana, as I wouldn%26#39;t like to travel by bus. My friends won%26#39;t go with me - they say that it%26#39;s too dangerous to travel to Albania -, but I disagree. Can anyone help?

Thank you so much!

Hello Botic,

There are no trains Skopje-Tirana, but only busses. Many leave late in the evening and in the morning you are in Tirana. Plan for some extra days on day tours (I would recommend Kruja and Durres), as you can see Tirana in one afternoon.

Tell your friends that it is as dangerous as anywhere else in the world! :)

Enjoy

Thank you very much; I intend to visit Durres, also! I will tell my friends that! :)

Oh tell your friends that travelling to Italy or France would probably result much more dangerous then Albania... Most probably... The only dangerous thing in Albania is traffic... For the rest you%26#39;re as safe as in Switzerland...

albaniantrip.com in case need more infos...

Best and have fun!

Thank you for replying! Unfortunately, they are very stubborn! That%26#39;s why, I%26#39;ve decided to go there only with my boyfriend! I%26#39;m sure we%26#39;ll have tons of fun and see some spectacular sights! :)

It is really safe to travel even by car. Me and my boyfriend went from Skopje to Durres, and down to Saranda in Albania by car - no problem at all. Police is careful not to harass foreign vehicles (I think it is in line with the country%26#39;s promotion as tourist destination), and people are friendly and helpful. Neither of us spoke Albanian, but whenever we stopped to ask for direction, they really tried hard to explain in English and Italian.

If you do take the bus after all, I would reccomend a Skopje - Ohrid route, sleep over and get some rest at Ohrid, and then continue on. The road is now in excellent condition, but it is tiresome to drive through mountains.
