accomodation in Albania

Hi -

I%26#39;ll be in Albania 16th-23rd August, mainly around the coast from Saranda to Vlore. I%26#39;m having some trouble booking accomodation ahead on the internet. Does anyone have experience of just turning up and finding a place to stay? Will that be possible or do you think everything will be booked up?

Hello Helen,

My husband and I are going to Albania on holiday from the 20th to 25th August and we are staying one night in Durres and the rest of the time in Sarande. My work colleague is Albanian and has been immensely helpful, and he assures me that accommodation will be no problem even without reservations. Being from Canada, this seems almost unnatural to me, so I reserved the Hotel Porto Eda in Sarande for a very reasonable rate. In Vlore we will wing it, though we have made tentative arrangements with Hotel Pavarsia. Bookings were made with name only, on the phone through my colleague, no credit card, we can pay when we get there. The options were endless and our main criteria were price, parking and proximity to the beach. We are renting a car so if one place does not work out we can easily move on, but my colleague has repeatedly stressed that there will be no problem finding affordable, safe, clean and welcoming places to stay.

Thanks for the reply Sinead. Actually this morning I also booked a place at the Hotel Porto Edo but after that will wing it (stopping off up the coast to Vlore). Thanks for the reassurance!

Hi,

Do not be surprised by the fact that you can not book or reserve online the hotels in Albania. Espetially for the area and the period you are searching (Vlore, August) I think it is impossible to make reliable online reservations. This is not a common practice for these hotles. I would suggest that an albanian friend (if any) contact and make the reservation for you. Otherwise be prepared to for a difficult and probably more expensive accomodation. If interested I know that hotel International in Vlora (http://www.vlorainternational.com) can make reservations through email but is rather expensive (they pretend to be 5-star). I know a website which can make reservations for turists but I have never used it and can not give a feedback (www.albania-hotel.com)
