Budva to Tirana

I am planning to get from Budva to Tirana in early July this Summer. Is there any bus connection from Montenegro side all the way until Tirana? How is the border crossing and can somebody estimate time needed for this trip? Thank you for any help.

Hey there,

No direct bus. From Ulcinj take the bus to Shkodra and then from Shkodra to Tirana. The border crossing is OK, might need a bit more time since it is July. I cannot estimate how much time you need. if you have a car should not be longer than 3,30 hours. by bus and connections definitely longer.

Hope this helps,

Thank you Rozafa for your valuable info. I wonder, if it is possible to hire a car with a driver from montenegro side to take us all the way to tirana. It would save a lot of time, make things otherwise easier, pricier propably too..

I am sure you could do it like that. It will be of course more expensive.

Maybe you could get someone to get you taxi to wait for you at the border. This will be cheaper. So you take a taxi from Budva to the border with Albania, Muriqani and on Albanian side a taxi waits for you to take you to Tirana.

Good luck,

If you want a bus, it may be easier to go from Budva to Podgorica and then on to Tirana. This makes the journey longer, but it is the more travelled route. In July it could be very congested. If you go via Bar and the border crossing point at Muriqan, the roads will be less congested, but there will fewer transportation options. The %26quot;two taxi%26quot; solution mentioned by Rozafa is the most likely.

This is getting interested.. when I look at the map I see the quickest road being from Bar to Shkoder.

If I take a taxi (or other rented car) from Montenegro, is it difficult for them to enter Albania or do they not want to do it? To pre-organise a taxi on the border might be a challenge.

Maybe it could be dealt with a quality hotel in Tirana?

The more adventurous option being to jump off the cab at the border, walk through and start calling a taxi or asking people going to Tirana to make a deal.. I quess by walking through the border one can forget the congestions, am I right?

PS Borders are sometimes fun. Once long time ago my car went broken in the %26#39;neutral%26#39; zone between Latvia and Lithuania. We pushed the car over and after some time managed to buy the accumulator %26#39;fresh%26#39; from one officer%26#39;s old Volga on the spot ;o)
