Tirana to the beach

We are traveling to Tirana in May and are looking to got to the beach for the day. Does anyone know the best way to get there? and what beach is the best?

That depends on your mode of travel. If you have your own vehicle, there are more options. If you rely on public transport, you are pretty much limited to Durres. To get there via public transport, you can catch a mini-van in Tirana near the train station that will take you to Durres. Once there, you can decide how far south from the port you want to go. The farther, the cleaner. You will need to walk along the beach or catch a cab to get out to Golem where the beach is much cleaner than in the city itself.

The other option is the train. It is slow, old, and not very well cleaned, but it does have the advantage of stopping in Golem before getting to Durres. From the %26quot;train station%26quot; in Golem it%26#39;s about 300 meters to the beaches. Lots of hotels, restaurants and bars there for your lounging pleasure.

If you have your own transport, there are better options than Durres. Not that Durres is terrible, but it can get very busy in high season and there are concerns about the water quality. A long day trip to the beach north of Shengjin is possible with a car or motorbike. Kavaja and Divjake also have large expanses of sand with fewer people than Durres.

The real pearls of the Albanian Riviera are south of Vlora and are more than a day trip from Tirana.

Quality, thanks a lot

Hey Grantleymassive,

I think you would be fine even in Durres in May, it should not be too busy. You might chose a hotel Mak Albania, the beach is clean and very few people around.

If you have your own car I would suggest General%26#39;s beach, nice, small beach a bit further down than Durres but it is a good experiance. The road is not so good so if you are not experianced driver and you don%26#39;t have a good car don%26#39;t go.

Have a nice time in Albania,
