Hi,
We are heading to Albania in June for a couple of weeks in the middle of a long trip. We are hoping to spend a bit of time just relaxing on a beach eating good food. Can anyone suggest a quiet nice place to stay (we are not really into a party atmosphere) that is on or near a beach in Southern Albania?
Thanks

I recommend the tiny beach of Jala. It is about four hours south from the capital city, Tirana. In case you find it too small or too quiet, it is next to other beaches such as Himara, Dhermi and Gjipe (short for Bay of God - the name speaks for itself).
Jala is quiet and has a main hotel, a tiny camping site - very cheap as well as a small number of chalets, which are clean, air-conditioned and inexpensive - around $40 per room of three per night. It has a few restaurants and caffes. They have a rich and excuisite menu that include numerous fresh fish dishes, vegetarian stews, various meat dishes and lots and lots of salads.
It is an experience like no other and you are right to want to visit now, before the tourist invasion, which is sure to come.

Thanks very much for that information, it sounds great. You don%26#39;t by any chance have the name of the hotel and the bungalows in the area?

I am going to southern Albania in Sep 2006. Have you been able to find any good accomodation? I%26#39;d like to stay in a villa, with my family - 6 people.

No joy as yet with places to stay, am going to get the new edition of the Bradt guide to Albania, which should help.
