My fiancee is from Albania and in October we will be going there to get married. He left me in charge of everything even though I have never been there lol. Any suggestions on hotels, restaurants, activities. We are staying in Tirana and visiting his family in Lach for a couple of days. I also really want to go to Durres. How is Elbasan, Gjrokaster and Saranda? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks : )

Congratulations for a)marrying an Albanian and b)going there!! I am marreid to an albanian and his family should be arranging the wedding so what is he playing at!! If you have never been there then I would advise not going at all and if possible going somewhere else for the Honeymoon!! It is very poor, run down and quite depressing, especially to see so much poverty. You will always be the outsider too so be prepared for that. Kosova is much more advanced I thought becasue of the Serbian influence. I hope you are sure you%26#39;re doing the right thing and Good Luck!!

Hi there. I assure you that you will have a good time in Tirana. Im not sure about Lac, but trust me Im albanian myself and its true that Albania is not USA, but its a country full of wonderful people. Its a country still in development. The people are nice, loving and caring. The other person before me wrote that its a poor country but lets not forget even New York has its ghettos. You%26#39;ll find wonderfull things in all the cities you will visit. The wedding will be an experience as well. Its a little different from what we do in USA, but i hope you leaned how to dance albanian. lol.
I wish you the best and a long happy life with your albanian guy.
By the way I am marrying an italian guy and i cant wait to take him there. and remember its doesnt matter where one is from a poor or a rich country. What matters is the person and the love you share with him.
enjoy albania and have fun.

Hello there and congratulations on your wedding.
I agree Albania is a poor country but has very friendly and hospitable poeple and this is what it matters. I have never been in Lac, I passed by few times so cannot tell you much but Durres is really nice place, the center and while there go to Piaca restaurant, the greatest fish restaurant. I would recomend you go to Gjirokastra, Berat and Sarand to visit Butrinti.
I spent this summer three weeks of my vacation in Albania with couple of my friends and we really enjoyed it. I have been working in
Tirana for the last year and I really like it. As everywhere there are good and bad things, at the moment we have power cuts, but nothing is perfect.
I am sure you will enjoy Albania, all the best.
