Hello there! We are thinking of going from Greece to Kroatia and back again with 2 motorbikes.
1.We have a worry about the condition of the roads in Kroatia and in Albania too (if we cross the borders).
2. What is the best way to follow? Through Albania? By a boat that goes directly from Kroatia to Greece? Some other idea...?
3. Which cities and countrysite do you suggest to visit in Kroatia?
Many thanks
Valentina

Definitely do not miss Albania with a motorbike. Depending on the type of bike it will be really worth it. Although the road can be surprising (so drive very carefully) it is worth it. Beautiful landscapes do explore on a bike. Nice food, lovely people, not too much effort. In three days you can share Albania, Montenegro and be in Croatia (for which i am not a specialists but which seems to be simply amazing)
Drive safe!

Thanks for the reply.
Can you be more specific though? For example what cities have you visited and which routes have you taken that seemed nice and worth the ride?
Have you stayed in a hotel that you recomend? etc etc
Many thanks

I would do : Saranda - Vlora - Tirana - Shkodra - Montenegro...

Sarande to Vlore is a very nice trip
At Sarande don%26#39;t forget to visit the historical site of Butrint!
Not far from Sarande you will find %26quot;Syri i kalter%26quot; meaning %26quot;the blue eye%26quot;, which is a natural vauclusion spring (rivier emerging from the earth from an unknown dept like in Vaucluse, France)
On the road from Sarande to Vlorë you will find places like Himarë and Dhermi to stay. From Dhermi to Vlore you have to climb up to 1.000 m above sealevel to cross Llogara ( also National Park ) Marvellous trip.
When entering Vlore on your right side you will find a well with fresh water called %26quot; Uji i ftohtë %26quot; which means %26quot;cold water%26quot; Vlore is nice to stay (beach life). Alternative route is Sarande-Girokaster-Tepelene ( beautiful mountain scenery) Worthwile visiting is the ancien orthodox convent of Monastir near Kolonje (on the road from Fier to Lushnje.
Lushnje isn%26#39;t worth visiting. But don%26#39;t miss Berat !!!!!!! Very nice, listed on the worlds heritage list! 1st of April the first backpackers hostel opened there ! Don%26#39;t miss Berat and mount Tomor !!
Tirana is worth visiting ! Remember it is a very crowded busy big city with a lot of smog !
Dust is a common problem in Albania and the heat ofcourse! Be prepared, over 45°C is average in summer!
The north of Albania I haven%26#39;t frequently visited yet, but it is worthwile that%26#39;s for sure!
East of Tirana %26gt; Elbasan ( former industrial city )and then %26quot;Lake Orid%26quot; %26gt; very nice, very good fish restaurants etc.
I have visited Albania about 12 times ( I ran a company there). I hope to travel Albania by motorcycle next june!
Enjoy your trip!

I second these suggestions. Albania is great for adventurous bikers. Drivers are terrible so keep an eye peeled. When you come from Croatia, take the coast road through Montenegro and stay on the coast until Bar. Then follow the road until you get to the border crossing at Muriqan. It is much less busy than Hani Hoti and the road is much better.
Once in Albania, there is a lot to do and so many ways to go. If your destination in Greece is Thessaloniki or Athens, you could go Shkoder, Tirana, Elbasan, Pogradec, Korce, Kapshtice and then Greece. Or continue from Korce to Leskovik, and cross into Greece at Tre Urat south of Permet. Or you could take the coast road all the way down. Or you could take the central route via Lushnje, Berat, Kelcyre, Permet and then Tre Urat (dirt bikes only!)
Safe journey!
