shkodra%26#39;s the best... friendliest people in the world

Shkodra is a grim place with piles of litter everywhere and horrendous drab apartment blocks from the stalinist era which dominate the town. The river is also polluted.
On the plus side there%26#39;s a nice castle just outside the town and an attractive mosque in the centre of town.

I am a western citizen living in Shkodra for 12 years. Yes, as in all of Albania, there is trash and drab apartments. But much is changing these days. Shkodra%26#39;s location on the largest lake in the Balkans, its proximity to the Velipoje Beach and Ulqin, Montenegro, and its cultural heritage including the Photo-teka Marubi make it a must see when in Albania. And yes, the people of Shkodra are most known for their hospitality and humor.

Hi all!
We are going to make a trip to Albania and my question is about travelling between the towns. In case if we would like to spend 2 nights in a town and look around in the surroundings.
I have heard that it is not so easy. the timetables are bad (when you travel to a town in the morning you will arrive in the early afternoon and the bus starts back in the afternoon because the driver has go back to the origin destination. so you can spend there about 2-3 hours) and the buses have a big delay. How travel the local people? By cars, taxis? I cannot believe. Thanks the answer in advance!

I am a 22 year old girl who is married to an albanian from velipoje and i have lived in shkoda for 2 months at a time 4 times a year and i thought albania maybe hasnt the best houses but the way they live the way they bring up there children to be hard working and to look after each other and the moral fibres of there society are far better than here in england. people moan about the way the transport and the houses are but what peole have to realize that what they have has not been funded by there goverment no benefits at all and what they have they can truly say they own it all and most familys do get by alot better than some other nationalitys. in the past year alot of work has gone uder way and things are looking alot better and ive never seen something as beutifull as the sun rise and sun fal from velipoje beech. i suggest if you have any interest in shkoder the best is for you to see for yourself, im sure if they showed you the hospitality they did me then you will love it thankyou
