The Best of Albania

I am both looking for, and providing information about Albania. Please read the growing list of the best of Albania (compiled through personal research done on the internet). Please add, or edit items to list as you see fit. If you live in Albania, or consider yourself an expert on the country then please contribute your tips, hints, and favourites based on the criteria listed below. Once complete, this list should help visitors find exactly %26quot;the very best in Albania%26quot;.

PLEASE only respond to this thread if you%26#39;re interested in helping to edit or contribute items to the list. Thank you.

CRITERIA for LIST:

-memorable/dramatic scenery %26amp; landscape photography. Where to find the best (viewpoints, vistas, city views, panoramas, skylines, sunsets, etc..)?

-the unique outdoors, hikes/hilltops/lookouts, and amazing views?

-lovely/charming streets, cute villages, and magnificent/attractive architecture?

Hi Sandia!

Here are a couple of tips about the points you touch here...:

Puke - visit the forests and the village of Gjegjan... (only nature there - little historical interest for tourist)

Tirana - visit the Lake park, visit the National Museum (highly reccomanded), Chateau Rexhekri (chill in summer at the village of Surrel on the way to Dajti mountain).

Tanner%26#39;s bridge is one of the oldest monuments of the town (elegantly preserved and reconstructed)...

For tirana just check the formula of accomodation we propose at albaniantrip.com

It helps develop a very interesting family business and a great experience for those who travel off the beaten track..

Durres - The palace of Ahmet Zogu is worth a visit for the surrounding vieuw... The palace itself is badly destroyed but it won%26#39;t be too long before reconstruction...

Korce - visit Voskopoja and Dardha (mountain villages - great nature and interesting history - beautiful orthodox churches..)

Porto Palermo (on the Riviera) - visit the castle of Ali Pasha and the surroundings...

Qeparo (south Porto Palermo ) visit the new and the old village...

Saranda - visit Syri i Kalter , Lekuresi castle, Butrint, eat local mussels...

Elbasan - visit the old town and the castle.

Cuisine - tave kosi or tave Elbasani, Tave dheu as well in central Albania...Drink raki... Drink Tirana and Korca beer..

Compliments on your work and just ask if need help!

Puke - Nothing to see there, mountains, forests and more mountains

Lac - Nothing there either, except an old catholic curch.

Tirana - The capital. Great 3,4,5 star hotels. Superb restaurants, coffe bars and night clubs.

Visit the National Museum, Mt Dajti View is beautiful and the Dajti Balcony Restaurant is great, make sure you order %26quot;Zog me pilaf%26quot; 20 euro plate for 2 persons. Ethem Beu Mosque is 100 m in front of National Museum. No idea what Tanner bridge is. Ismail Qemali Street (bourbon street like) is an area overpopulated with bars and nightclubs. No cars are permitted through the area after 18:00. Therefore is becomes like a huge redcarpet walk for everybody who is somebody or wants to be one...

there is a lot more about Albania, but it ceartinly takes a lot of time to write this stuff... there might be more coming... not sure

My favourite was Berat, a small town under the village within the castle walls and also there the best food in Tomi restaurant/bar

You have to visit Voskopoja. The village is full of history, wonderful mountains and very well known for the powers of its waters.

It is a pleasure year round. Skkiing in the winter and hiking during the summer. It is truly representative of Albania at the local level and only appropriate for those who dare to travel to remote places.

Hi folks

Have you read recent threads?

You are replying to very old posts! I don%26#39;t understand why you choose to do so. The posts have been dormant for so long that it is surely pointless to reply to them! I will contact TA support again, and know doubt again, they will remove any irrelevant replies.

Sorry folks, I have asked for someone to PM me if there is a genuine reason for %26#39;bumping%26#39; up these topics, but no-one has deigned to reply to me so far.

Kind regards

J

Hi epuleri

I hope you have read my recent reply?

Welcome to the trip adviser forums. Thankyou for your first ever contribution today!

Unfortunately tripexpertusa09 has been bringing up very old topics. No-one seems to know why. I have sent a personal message to him/her and await a reply.

In the meantime, my advice would be to really check the date of the original posting. Otherwise all your helpfull advice may go to waste!

J
