Hi
Planning my honeymoon and after a week chilling out in Dubrovnik somewhere we are planning on renting a car. When we get to Podgorica in Montenegro, it will be onto Tirana for a few days, then onto Durres for another few days and then making our way back to Dubrovnik.
There has been a few posts here about driving and while the North of Albania does appear to be better, what I am basically worried about is the driving! I%26#39;m a seasoned traveller but have never driven a car in Europe before so am nervous.
Is there anything in particular i should be prepared for in Albania? border crossings/corrupt cops/car jackings! etc Is it worth the hassle??

Hey Feic,
Albania is a beautiful country and is definitely worth visit but driving is mad here. Most of the driving accidents are caused by emigrants during the summer who come here with good cars and drive carelessly. Most of them will go back to their country where they work so you should drive carefully and you will be OK. Only advise is if you can avoid night driving.
I have a car here but I only drive when I go abroad. Albanians are friendly and great people but I think driving is not their strongest point. Those who know the rules, don%26#39;t respect them and I am very sorry to say, it looks like most of them don%26#39;t know them.
Border crossings are fine, I do travel at least once a month and I never needed to pay any bribe. I have been here for three years and I never heard of any car jacking.
Enjoy your trip and congratulation on your marriage.

Thanks for that
I have driven before in croatia and slovenia but never in large cities so it was easy enough but also have driven in Italy-they are nutters over there but i suppose my main concern was safety. I know we are in modern Europe now but i will never have been as far east as Albania. Looking forward to it!
