I have Albanian heritage and will be travelling to various countries in Europe to meet my mothers family for the first time at around Oct/Nov this year.
For some reason Mum doesn%26#39;t want to go to Albania - I don%26#39;t understand. The reviews I have read here have been very complimentary so it cannot be for reasons of safety or comfort.
Can anyone give me an indication of what the weather is usually like during Oct/Nov? Any other information you would like to share would also be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what to expect. Thank you!

Probably your Mum hasn%26#39;t been in Albania for a while.
It is understandable, Albania has changed drastically only in the last 7-8 years. In the 90%26#39;s it was not a very pleasant place to visit.
Although Albania is a small country, weather varies substantially
What parts of Albania are you planning to visit ?

Thanks, Ed. She left in the early 70s before I was born and has only been back once, in 1988.
My sister and I were named in honour of mums homeland by using anglicised versions of Narta and Saranda so I would be keen to see those places too.
I don%26#39;t think she has any family still there but I thought they used to live in Shkoder (they now live in the US, Germany, Switzerland etc. + some in Kosovo). Thanks again!

The year 1988 belongs to a different chapter of the Albanian history. At the time, it was still a communist country.
Nowadays, Albania is a %26quot;work in progress%26#39; country. This is more evident in the large cities, mainly in Tirana and Durres. Tirana has probably changed 65 -70% of its 1988%26#39;s infrastructure. The same may be true for the Durres city.
The other cities are changing to a slower rate. Saranda may be an exception.
Unfortunately, Shkodra, despite its very rich cultural and historical heritage remains one of the poorest and dangerous cities in Albania.
South of Albania has probably more to explore than the rest of Albania combined. Cities of Berat and Gjirokastra are very pleasant and very rich in historical monuments. Butrint, in the far south is the jewel of the Albanian archeology. Saranda is the top vacation destination for the Albanians.
However, you don%26#39;t want to miss the Albanian Riviera, which includes Dhermi, Himara and Vlora.
Infrastructure is changing and once you set foot in Tirana (which you may have to visit anyway, the only international airport is there),
you will see the fast pace of which the city is growing.
Weather on October/November can be upredictable, unless you stay in the southern tip of Albania.
In Tirana, you never know, it may shine or it may rain. However, it is not cold. The coldest months are January and February, where the temperature in Tirana may drop in negative values(celcius)
Saranda, Vlora have a more stable and comfortable weather.
Good luck

Hi there,
My husband is Albanian and I have visited on several occasions. We are taking all of my (English) family to visit in August to show them how beautiful and hospitable Albania is. People in England seem to have a very negative view of Albania which is a shame. I thought it was so lovely, my husband and I have started a company to try to sell holidays to Albania. We have initially concentrated on Saranda but we are already expanding into Durres, Vlora, Tirana and can organise day trips to the many wonderful places to visit in Albania. We have some information and photographs of Saranda on our website www.illyriatravel.com. If you require any information or guidance regarding your visit, please contact us. We will be happy to help. We can also provide you with a contact name and number in Albania (my sister in law who is also our representative in Albania) in case you need any help or advice whilst you are there. I hope you have a lovely time, I%26#39;m sure you will love it. I look forward to hearing from you.
