Hello Everyone,
I am planning a trip this summer, starting from Corfu to Sarande, work my way north all the way to Dubrovnik, than inland to Bosnia.
Questions:
How is the public transportation? Is it easy to get from Sarande to Ulcinj, Montenegro? How safe is it for a single female travelling alone through Albania? Is it better to just get a flight from Athen to Tivat or Podgorica?
Thanks in advance for the information.

Jules:
I%26#39;m also planning a trip this September - planning to drive from Athens, through Tirana and Dubronik and on up to Munich. I%26#39;d appreciate it if you could give me any information that you might get from your query. Thanks.

Hi,
it is very safe to trvael through Albania, you wont have any problem travelling at any time in Albania.
From Saranda you have a direct bus to Tirana, then you can spend some time to see Tirana, or you could take the bus Shkodra.
Just before you enter Shkodra once you past the bridge of first River, you can take off the bus and then on the bridge of the second River you can get a ,inibus which would take only 30 minutes to ulcinj, and that%26#39;s till where i can take you.
Any other question you can contact me on serianlove@hotmail.com

Jules,
the only thing you need to think is about the travel time. It will take you about 7 hrs on the bus from Saranda to Tirana and the road is not that good so beware if you usually suffer from road sickness. There are two roads from Saranda to Tirana. One goes through boring and tiresomely narrow roads and the other goes up the mountain along the coast - an excellent view of Corfu from the top of the mountain.
Otherwise, everything is ok. You will need also another 2.5-3 hrs to get to the Montenegrin border from Tirana.
all the best

Hi jules Malay,
Re travel Corfu-Saranda. The shortest sea crossing to Saranda is from Corfu. I guess you%26#39;ll have to chage planes at Athens coming from US. I have done a similar trip (I%26#39;m a guy) and have to tell you that Albania is NOT for the faint-hearted! I think it%26#39;s safer and easier for a female to travel with at least 1 other person - preferably male). If it%26#39;s your very first visit to Albania, it can be very tough and unless your Albanian is fluent, take care.
In 2005 April, all boats and hydrofoils left Cofu at 9 am (15 euros one way) so one night in Corfu Town is almost unavoidable as it is unlikely your flight to Corfu will give you enough time to catch the boat (Maybe in summer crossings are more frequent).
I stayed at the Atlantis Hotel in Corfu across the road from where all crossings to Saranda leave. The hotel staff are very helpful. Hotel not deluxe but quite comfortable and clean.I have details of hotel if you need.
All buses Saranda-Tirana leave in the mornings only and takes most of the day to get to Tirana - no air-conditioning in my bus but a lunch stop. I stayed at the Hotel California in Tirana-very central, approx 50 euros for a single. There are buses to Shkodër I%26#39;m sure but I didn%26#39;t do that leg of the journey as I was staying in Budva (Montenegro). Again all buses in Albania seem to leave early so I took a taxi.
I have done the bus journey from Dubrovnik-Ulcinj then into Montenegro (a long journey so I recommend taking a packed lunch!) A word of warning: all buses to Montenegrin border start in Dubrovnik so I just told an official at Dubrovnik airport my travel plansand she called the bus terminus in Dubrovnik to be sure to stop at bus stop opposite Airport on main road (All arriving tourists have buses in the OTHER direction to Dubrovnik) No problem and all went smoothly. I hope that%26#39;s clear!
I do urge you to see Budva (Montenegro) By far the most beautiful place on that part of the coast. I have details of hotels if you%26#39;re interested.
Have a great trip,
